PD: Father left his 2 toddlers inside cold, unlocked SUV without heat
LAKE GROVE — A man is behind bars after police arrested him for allegedly leaving his children unattended in an unlocked car.
Police say officers responded to a parking lot along Nesconset Highway Wednesday after someone called 911 and reported two children left alone in a parked SUV. The father, 41-year-old Christopher Evans is accused in the incident.
Police say they found the 4-year-old girl and 1-year-old boy in the in a Honda Pilot which was not running and unlocked. The temperature was around 35 degrees at the time.
According to authorities, Evans left the children in the vehicle for about 20 minutes while he went to a doctor’s appointment. He’s now charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The children have been released to another family member.
Evans was arraigned Thursday.
