Organizers Yield to Mounting Criticism
NEW YORK CITY — For the first time in the history of the race, the New York City Marathon has been canceled in the wake of the damage and devastation left by Hurricane Sandy. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and race organizers had repeatedly insisted that the race would go on and provide a healing experience for the city, but in the face of mounting criticism, the event was canceled.
