Red Cross Says Shelters Open as Long as Necessary
BRENTWOOD — Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc across Long Island forcing residents out of their homes and into emergency shelters. Still with the number of emergencies growing at unprecedented speeds, the Red Cross insists that they will remain on the island to assist anyone as long as necessary. At Brentwood High School, employees and volunteers of the organization are working 12-hour shifts to assist the 300 local residents that are expected to come flocking in by Tuesday night.
Red Cross shelters have been set up across Long Island. For a complete list of emergency locations, visit www.NassauCountyNY.gov or www.SuffolkCountyNY.gov.
