MINEOLA — James Ryan, 25, of Oakdale, is facing a laundry list of charges in relation to the death of Nassau County police officer Joseph Olivieri. The 43-year-old Olivieri was fatally struck Thursday morning near Exit 35 on the Long Island Expressway while responding to a two-car accident on the HOV lane. According to police, Ryan struck Olivieri as the officer was exiting his car, and kept driving. Olivieri was immediately transported to North Shore Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Ryan is being charged with vehicular manslaughter, reckless endangerment, drug possession, driving while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an accident.
