CENTRAL ISLIP — An Long Island doctor is accused of causing the deaths of two of his patients after he allegedly prescribed them excessive amounts of painkillers. Dr. William Conway, 69, is expected to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Central Islip next week. Officials said that a New York State Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement investigation revealed that Conway and his assistant, Robert Hachmeister, 67, issued more than 5,500 oxycodone prescriptions to more than 6,000 patients within a period of two years.

Conway faces up to life in prison if he is convicted of causing the deaths of his two patients.
