MINEOLA — Robert Core, the Hempstead public safety officer who was convicted of the 2011 drunk driving crash that claimed the life of 50-year-old Eddie Cotto, was sentenced Thursday. Core will serve nine months behind bars in addition to three years of probation and three years with an ignition interlock device. Core will begin to serve his sentence next week.
