Authorities Said Thomas Counihan Pointed Gun at Officers
WADING RIVER — Police said a meeting between drug enforcement officers and a parolee ended in gunfire after the parolee pulled out a gun. Authorities said that Thomas Counihan, 60, admitted to having marijuana during his meeting with the officers, who also uncovered other drugs in his possession. Police said Counihan pulled out a gun, pointed at himself and then at the officers. Newsday reported that one of the officers shot at Counihan and missed. The parolee was arrested after falling to the ground.
