Police Say a Third Victim is in Critical Condition
SHIRLEY — Two people are dead and another is reported seriously injured after a small propeller plane carrying three people crashed into a residential neighborhood on Sunday. According to authorities, the plane came plummeting down just feet away from neighborhood homes minutes after leaving Brookhaven airport. Police say the pilot of the plane was killed on impact and the only female passenger, 60-year-old Jane Unhjem of Goshen, was pronounced dead hours later at Stony Brook Medical Center. A third passenger, who police have identified as Uhjem's husband, Erik, remains in critical condition this morning.
Police say it is unclear what caused the accident at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
