Police: Sergeant Craig Bier Was Shot in Both Legs
QUEENS, N.Y. — Police say an NYPD officer is recovering this morning after he was shot on both legs by a suspect Wednesday night in the neighborhood of Jamaica. According to authorities, 15-year veteran Sgt. Craig Bier was shot twice by the man after he and his partner tried to stop him. Police say the chase began after the suspect, identified as 24-year-old John Thomas, ran after the officers who were dressed in plain clothes at time. Thomas then fled the scene firing rounds at both officers, authorities say.
Sgt. Bier was rushed to Jamaica hospital where doctors say he is expected to make a full recovery. In an interview with FiOS1 News, Bier's mother, Betty Bier, said her son is in good spirits despite the unfortunate incident.
