MIDDLE ISLAND — Firefighters rushed to a home on Half Mile Road Monday night after a man is reported ablaze in his backyard. Officials say the emergency call came in at around 7:45 p.m. and firemen immediately rushed to the scene. According to media reports, neighbors eased the fire burning the man's flesh before emergency units arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, they noticed the victim had serious burns and the home still in flames. Officials say it took nearly 60 firemen and thirty minutes to control the fire on the one story ranch.

The unidentified victim was air lifted to Stony Brook Medical Center where he remains in an unknown condition.
