NYPD officers are stationed outside local Sikh temples Monday in the wake of Sunday's mass shooting in Wisconsin.

Officials are especially concerned because the tri-state area has a large Sikh community. But Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly met Monday with Richmond Hill temple leaders, who say they feel safer with police nearby.

There were several local ties to the deadly shooting. Mohan Singh Khatra says his 78-year-old uncle, Subeg Singh Khatra, was among the victims. Oak Creek Police Lt. Brian Murphy, who was shot nine times while responding to the tragedy, is also the brother of a retired NYPD detective.
