Nassau County police officials said they plan to eliminate its motorcycle platoon as part of a cost-cutting initiative. Newsday reports the effort is part of a $4 million savings plan that also includes minimizing the department's marine unit during the winter months. Officials added that layoffs are not included in the budget-cutting effort.
