3 Children Were Killed When 34-Foot Yacht Capsized
OYSTER BAY — Nassau County police discussed plans for the retrieval of the yacht that capsized on the Fourth of July and claimed the lives of three children. In a press conference held Monday, Nassau County Police Department Chief Steven Skrynecki said the marine bureau is working with the FBI to map the site using sonar and then discuss the best method to bring the vessel to the surface. "We are hopeful that we will be able to do that with the use of airbags," said Skrynecki. "Airbags will be placed in and around the vessel, inflated and bring that vessel to the surface."
Skrynecki said the cause of the accident is still unclear but they are hoping to learn more from the examination of the boat.
