WADING RIVER — Five people, including a 7-year-old boy, are recovering Monday after the paddle boat they were in flipped Sunday night. According to investigators, the stranded boaters fell into the dark waters after their boat hit a wave at around 10 p.m. Local residents heard the victims' cries for help and rushed to the river to bring them to safety. Officials say that only three of the boaters, including the child, were wearing life jackets. Police are looking at overcrowding as a possible factor in this accident as well as in the Fourth of July boat tragedy in Cold Spring Harbor that claimed the lives of three children.
