Unemployment Claims up 2,094 in New York
NEW YORK — Unemployment claims across the region went up as the nationwide numbers continued to fall. The number of applications for jobless benefits nationwide fell 14,000 in the week ended June 30 to 374,000, according to the latest Labor Department numbers released on Friday. New York State unemployment claims increased by 2,094 largely due to layoffs by restaurants and in the healthcare and education fields. New Jersey's unemployment claims increased by 4,894 due to layoffs in education, transportation and the hospitality industry.
