Andy Griffith, the actor best known for his roles as a widowed sheriff in the self-titled "The Andy Griffith Show" and the lovable attorney in the series "Matlock," passed away Tuesday at the age of 86 at his North Carolina home. Friend and former University of North Carolina president Bill Friday confirmed Griffith's passing. In 2005, former President George W. Bush recognized Griffith with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
