LONG BEACH — Some Long Island residents started their Fourth of July holiday a day early as they headed to the beach on Tuesday. The beautiful weather made for the perfect day to soak up the sun, play volleyball, enjoy ice cream and relax.

While many will be heading to the beaches on the Fourth of July, officials announced that Field Six West Beach at Heckscher Park is off limits because of poor water quality. Field Eight at East Beach will remain open as officials said additional testing will be done to determine when swimming will be permitted.
