SMITHTOWN — Experts say President Obama’s health care act will benefit women throughout the country. Gina Weatherup of Planned Parenthood said 19 million women nationwide are uninsured. Weatherup adds that in the coming years more than 600,000 women of reproductive age in New York who did not have health insurance or had inadequate coverage will have full access to health care. This coming August, Weatherup said more than 2 million women will have access to preventative care and will no longer have to deal with the insurance practice known as "gender rating" that can charge women premiums up to 50 percent more than men.
