MANHASSET — After a couple of days of extreme temperatures, stormy weather arrived Friday afternoon on Long Island, bringing lightning and a torrential downpour. The sudden surge toppled down trees, taking wires down with them and leaving nearly 12,000 residents without power. Long Island Power Authority crews worked Friday night to restore power to those affected.
