Proposal Will Turn Country Club Into Members-Only Town Park
NORTH HEMPSTEAD — A controversial plan is looking to turn a Roslyn Heights country club into a members-only town park. The measure, passed Tuesday night during a town council meeting, will purchase a seven-acre parcel of land from the Roslyn Country Club for $2 million. Officials say they are expecting to spend another $7 million on updates to the pool and tennis courts. They also say the project will enhance the town’s appeal and improve quality of life without needing to raise taxes to pay for maintenance of the park. Members looking to use the park would have to pay average yearly dues of $1,000.
While some residents think the project is a good idea, others think the high fees will shut out many members of the community.
