A new bill defining cyber-bullying has been introduced in the state of New York. According to the bill passed Saturday, officials in Albany have agreed that any harassment, insult, taunt or threat made through social media will be considered an act of cyber-bullying. In order to protect anyone targeted, the bill also requires schools to designate an official responsible for prompt action on any reports of cyber-bullying and develop a strategy for dealing with the issue. The bill, however, does not criminalize it.
The state legislature will take a final vote next week.
