172 Compete to Advance to August's Tournament

FLUSHING, N.Y. — Local non-professional players are participating in a regional tournament at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center in hopes to get into the 2012 U.S. Open in August. A total of 172 players, ranging from ages 14 through 61, will compete in men’s and women’s single matches as well as mixed doubles. The winners will advance to the U.S. Open national playoffs. The champions of that tournament will receive a wild card into the main draw of the U.S. Open.
