Measure Would Fine Homeowners For Having Unkempt Lawns
MASSAPEQUA PARK — A new law passed by the village will punish homeowners who do not maintain their lawns. Offenders could be fined $1,000 for not trimming their lawn and repeat offenders could be fined as much as $10,000. Officials say that unkempt lawns are not only unsightly but can create health hazards. The village's mayor says the reason for the law is because of frustration with the responsiveness of local banks regarding clearing and maintaining properties they own in the village.
