HEMPSTEAD — Police arrested a Nassau County police officer Tuesday and charged him with petty theft. According to investigators, Thomas Welsh stole over $40 worth of baby formula from the local Stop & Shop using plastic bags and a bungee cord. Officials say Welsh, a 25 year veteran of the force, was suspended for 30 days.
