State of Emergency Declared in Suffolk County
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo held a press conference Tuesday to announce that the brush fire that began Monday afternoon has been largely contained. A state of emergency was also declared in Suffolk County. Bellone thanked the 109 county fire departments that responded for preventing what could have been a "significant disaster." Bellone also expressed his gratitude to Cuomo for his support and the coordination of state resources. While officials have lifted the mandatory evacuation order for residents, both Cuomo and Bellone warn the threat of further fires is not gone yet.
