Lawmakers from New York and New Jersey are demanding the Port Authority become more transparent after an audit last month called the agency "challenged and dysfunctional". A new bill being proposed, the Transparency and Accountability Act, would require annual audits by independent firms and regular analyses by consultants on Port Authority operations. Public hearings would also be mandatory before any toll increase or major policy decisions are made that would affect commuters.
