Nassau County officials have organized free job preparation classes where residents can learn about resume writing, interview tips and the best ways to find work. Professionals from staffing agencies will lead the classes.

“We encourage everyone, including veterans, to register for one of the free job preparation workshops as this is a great opportunity to enhance your ability of becoming gainfully employed,” said Essex County Executive Ed Mangano. “The better prepared the job seekers are, the more confident they come across which can lead to greater employment opportunities and success.”

If you're looking to become a homeowner in Nassau County, you may be able to get a little bit of help with your down payment.

County executive Ed Mangano announced Wednesday that a federal grant program for first-time homeowners will begin April 1st. The Home Investment Partnerships Program is providing $500,000 in grants to young adults, families and seniors who are eligible for federal funding.

As temperatures plummet across the region, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano has opened additional Warming Centers for residents to find comfort during the day. The County will continue to identify new locations for warming centers and announce their openings. County Executive Mangano has strongly advised all residents without power to utilize his Friends and Family Sheltering Plan or utilize one of the County’s 24-hour shelters.

    Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto announced today that the following warming stations will be open today from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 P.M. due to the frigid temperatures:

    · OYSTER BAY COMMUNITY CENTER, CHURCH STREET, OYSTER BAY

    Benjamin M. Lawsky, Superintendent of Financial Services, announced representatives of the Department of Financial Services will be at four locations on Long Island to offer help to homeowners, renters and business owners with insurance-related issues stemming from damage caused by Storm Sandy.

    The Department’s representatives will be available to meet with residents inside the agency’s Mobile Command Center, which will be stationed at these locations:

    Nassau County

    Saturday, Nov. 24 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Freeport Recreation Center, 130 E. Merrick Road, Freeport.

    Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau County’s Business Recovery Center is fully functional and has launched a new website to support its activities, which include a 24-hour hotline. The Business Recovery Center was established by County Executive Mangano immediately following Hurricane Sandy’s landfall in Nassau.

    Bethpage, NY - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the County, FEMA, the Salvation Army and the Red Cross are distributing food and drinks to thousands of residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy. LOCATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE DAILY. County Shelters and Warming Centers remain open to the public.
