His boldly colorful, strongly linear works take on the difficult themes of religion, drugs, life and death, sexuality, and unity with imagery ranging from darkly disturbing to joyously triumphant. Though he experimented with many different mediums, his sculptures echo the style and themes from his bold 2-dimensional works. Also, on view in the Domestic Arts Building, the environmental work of Chakaia Booker, whose primary medium of recycled tires begs the comparison between the pattern in a relief sculptures tire tread to the patterns of ancient writing, likening the viewers experience of examining her work to a process of archeological discovery.
